The District Military Coordinating Committee (DMCC) looks for opportunities to support our military and veteran community. One such is occurring next month and we are offering information for clubs and individuals to participate if desired.

Operation Gratitude provides opportunities for the American people to express their gratitude and show our Military and first responders that what they do matters. Since 2003, with the help of our nationwide network of Volunteers, they have sent a total of 4 million Care Packages containing carefully chosen items meant to boost the morale and resilience of our service members and give them warm reminders of home. Today they send up to 200,000 Care Packages per year, and are committed to growing that number to over 1 million per year by 2027.

On August 19th and 20th, Operation Gratitude will be holding an assembly event at the San Diego Air and Space Museum where they will assemble 7,500 Deployed Troop Care Packages for the USS George Washington. The USS George Washington is currently conducting a change of homeport and will eventually replace USS Ronald Reagan in Yokosuka, Japan. She will stop in San Diego on her way to her new homeport and Operation Gratitude will present the crew with care packages. This is an opportunity for Rotary Clubs to participate in a community service event to support active-duty military and all are encouraged to consider participating.
